Dear resident,

I hope you are remaining well and finding the relaxation of lockdown helpful; but don't forget to keep your distance! Many residents have been asking for the local civic amenities (CA) sites to open and recently the Government has issues guidance as to how this should be done. Opening the CA sites is difficult for Rutland, mainly because of the need to ensure staff can work safely but also to ensure the weekly refuse collections continue to happen (it is the same staff for both functions) during a period when some staff are self-isolating and thus not available to work. Further, the police have made it clear the site in Cottesmore cannot open because of the risk of traffic queueing onto major roads. Rutland is therefore opening the CA site at Morcott from Tuesday 19 March from 10am till 4pm. As this is the only site which will open it is anticipated it will be very busy. Admission will be from the north and a one way system to facilitate this will be in operation on North Luffenham Road (the road between North Luffenham and the CA site at Morcott). If you plan going to the site please note:

  • A maximum of four vehicles unloading on-site at a time, with no more than two persons per vehicle
  • Visitors must observe social distancing and stay two metres away from each other and site staff at all times
  • The site will close for 15 minutes at 12.00pm, 2.00pm and 4.00pm each day so that it can be cleaned
  • No trailers will be accepted on-site because of the need to move vehicles in and out as quickly as possible
  • Visitors are asked to pre-sort their waste and separate out materials like metal, wood and plastics before traveling to the site
  • Staff at the site will provide instructions but cannot help to unload or put waste items into containers

Further information can be found at https://www.rutland.gov.uk/my-council/council-news/north-luffenham-recycling-centre-to-reopen-for-essential-waste/

If you have bulky waste to dispose of you can have that collected by RCC https://www.rutland.gov.uk/my-council/council-news/bulky-waste-collections-resume/, some waste can go in the normal bins and some you can store till everything returns to normal. Remember –Can your Waste Wait—

While these emergency operations are in place residents in Morcott, South Luffenham and North Luffenham are going to have a measure of disruption to their lives. We should all thank them for their forbearance and treat their villages with respect and the villagers themselves with courtesy. Stay safe. Stay happy.
