Saint Georges Barracks
On Monday March 22nd, RCC voted down a grant application designed to support infrastructure expenditure on the SGB site. The Parish Council have long campaigned against the size of the development at SGB. Amongst other things a modern new town half as big again as Uppingham, would be a blot on Rutland's landscape. It would create major traffic problems for our village , Main St would be a rat run to the A1. New housing should be sited close to our existing settlements not concentrated in an isolated rural situation.
A majority of county councillors now accept our view, and the lack of grant funding will require a significant rethink of development of the site. We will continue to campaign for any development of that site to be on a Rutland scale and to ensure traffic management schemes protect our local environment.
